Chanel takes Blazy's Cruise 2027/28 to Deauville on 27 April 2027, where Gabrielle Chanel first sold clothes in 1913; Sem's 1913 caricature

Chanel will present Matthieu Blazy's Cruise 2027/28 collection in Deauville on Tuesday 27 April 2027, his second cruise for the house after Biarritz in April 2026. Gabrielle Chanel, then a milliner in Paris, had a boutique in the Normandy resort by the summer of 1913, and it was there she started selling clothes: casual pieces in jersey and tricot, financed by Arthur Capel. The drawing is Sem's, from his 1913 album of caricatures Tangoville-sur-mer, now in the Musée Carnavalet: Chanel carried off by Capel drawn as a polo-playing centaur, a striped hatbox in her hand. Biarritz followed in 1915, a couture house in a villa opposite the casino. Image: Sem, Album Tangoville-sur-mer, 1913, Musée Carnavalet, CC0.
