Issey Miyake SS27 at the Dojo de Paris: ma, the space in between; dancers under one vast piece of fabric; bodices moulded with Wacoal's technology

Satoshi Kondo's idea of ma was the space between a garment and the body inside it, the nearest English dressmaking word for which is ease. Patterned scarves were draped through long plain dresses and sheaths went over other dresses: clothes wore clothes, ma within ma. The Wacoal technology was originally developed to mould bra cups.

The post, as it ran

01MA IS THE JAPANESE WORD FOR THE SPACE IN BETWEEN. SATOSHI KONDO BUILT ISSEY MIYAKE'S SPRING 2027 COLLECTION ON IT, AT THE DOJO DE PARIS.
02THE SHOW OPENED WITH DANCERS MOVING UNDER ONE VAST PIECE OF FABRIC, WHICH CAUGHT THE AIR AS IF IT WERE A SINGLE GARMENT.
03COATS AND SKIRTS BILLOWED AND SNAPPED AGAINST THE AIR AS THE MODELS WALKED.
04BODICES WERE MADE WITH WACOAL, THE JAPANESE INTIMATE-APPAREL COMPANY, USING ITS MOULDING TECHNOLOGY TO FORM THE SHAPE OF A TORSO.
05THE HOUSE'S PLEATS WERE THERE TOO, MOVING WITH THE BODY.
