American Gigolo, 1980: Richard Gere in Armani, Lauren Hutton with the Bottega Veneta clutch that became The Lauren 1980
American Gigolo, 1980: Richard Gere in Giorgio Armani, Lauren Hutton with a red woven Bottega Veneta (@bottegaveneta) clutch. One film, two Milan houses, both of which showed this weekend.
The film is credited with establishing Armani in Hollywood. Hutton's own wardrobe was by Basile, with one Armani grey trench. Her intrecciato clutch was later reissued as The Lauren 1980, named for her and for the year of the film, and she walked a Bottega Veneta show carrying it again.
In September 2025, at 81, she sat front row at Bottega Veneta with the clutch, then at Giorgio Armani with Gere.
