Argyle comes off a clan tartan

Argyle is a tartan that lost its kilt. The diamond pattern derives from the tartan of Clan Campbell of Argyll, in the Scottish west, reworked into knitwear. Pringle of Scotland turned it into jumpers and socks, and the Duke of Windsor wore it on the golf course until it meant money and leisure. A war pattern, gone to the fairway.
