Helmut Lang shredded his own archive
Helmut Lang shredded his own archive. Thousands of pieces. On purpose. After leaving fashion in 2005, a fire tore through his New York studio in 2010 and damaged part of his collection. Instead of restoring what survived, Lang shredded the remaining six thousand or so garments himself and used the material in his sculptures. The most influential minimalist of the nineties turned his life's work into raw material. No re-editions, no museum retrospective. Just art.
