The Gucci Bamboo bag was born of a leather shortage

The Bamboo 1947 wasn't a mood board, it was a workaround: with leather rationed after the war, Gucci reached for a material that wasn't, and bamboo cane from Japan fit. The heat-bending is still handwork in Florence, so no two curved handles are exactly alike. Necessity came before the signature.
