Courrèges before Drew Henry's first show: founded 1961 after a decade at Balenciaga, the 1964 Space Age collection, the white boots in the V&A
Courrèges shows Drew Henry's first collection on Wednesday 30 September at 10:30. The house was founded in 1961 by André Courrèges after a decade under Balenciaga (@balenciaga), with Coqueline, his partner in work and life. His 1964 collection in white and silver became known as Space Age, or Moon Girl: short skirts, slim trousers, boxy jackets and flat white boots, calf-high and low-heeled, in vinyl or leather. A 1965 pair in leather and velcro sits in the Victoria and Albert Museum. With Mary Quant (@maryquant_london) he is credited with popularising the miniskirt. He died in January 2016, aged 92, after thirty years with Parkinson's. He and Coqueline sold the house in 2011. Nicolas Di Felice ran it from 2020 until March, when Henry was named; Henry came up under Phoebe Philo (@phoebephilo) at Céline, ran ready-to-wear design at JW Anderson, and was senior design director at Burberry (@burberry) under Daniel Lee.
